Atlasville titans serve up victory at Ekurhuleni District Leg

Representing Atlasville Tennis Club, the Titans showcased a masterclass in power, precision, and team synergy to claim first place in the A Division,

The courts of the Gauteng East Tennis Complex in Benoni came alive over the weekend of June 7 and 8.

Top tennis clubs from across Ekurhuleni battled it out in the prestigious American Express National Club Championship. Atlasville Titans emerged victorious in the A division, cementing their place as one of the region’s elite.

Representing Atlasville Tennis Club, the Titans showcased a masterclass in power, precision, and team synergy to beat strong contenders Sunward Park in the finals. Their win secured them a coveted spot in the Gauteng provincial playoffs.

The tournament, fondly known as The Amex, is the pinnacle of South African club tennis. It begins with regional playoffs, with winners progressing to provincial showdowns. The final stage brings together the top provincial clubs from across the country to compete for national glory at the iconic Sun City.

Club chairperson and resident coach Kobri du Preez said he is incredibly proud of his teams.
“The Titans played their hearts out. Their win is not just a victory for the club. It’s proof of the dedication, training, and team spirit that defines Atlasville Tennis.

Team Atlasville Smashers came third in the B division. They are Ernst de Wet, with Beverley Solomon (back) and René Laing and Andre Muller.
Team Atlasville Aces came fifth in the A division. They are Michelle Li, Lucas van der Merwe and Neil Alston.

“Atlasville Tennis Club had a powerful presence at the Ekurhuleni leg, entering three teams in total. In addition to the Titans, the club’s second A division team, the Atlasville Aces, put in a solid performance, finishing fifth. In the B division, the Atlasville Smashers narrowly missed out on a finals spot, placing third after a fiercely contested series of matches.”

The final results from the Ekurhuleni leg were as follows:A Division
Winners – Atlasville Titans
Runner-up – Sunward Park
B Division
Winners – Smashing Eagles
Runner-up – Highly Strung
