Laerskool Goudrand learners advance to nationals in public speaking competition
The prestigious competition challenges young speakers to showcase their confidence, creativity, and ability to engage audiences across the country.
Laerskool Goudrand Primary is beaming with pride as three of its learners, Nompumelelo Mfuphi, Chioma Okeke and Lemohang Molefe, have advanced to the national Forte Round of the Con Spirito Eisteddfod public speaking competition, scheduled to take place in August.
The prestigious competition challenges young speakers to showcase their confidence, creativity, and ability to engage audiences across the country.
Molefe’s journey into public speaking began with small school events.
“My parents encouraged me to try public speaking as an extracurricular activity. My mom, who also spoke during her school years, now coaches me. She always tells me that one day I’ll get paid to speak.”
Her passion for capturing and holding the attention of an audience has only grown stronger with each experience.

Okeke discovered her voice and confidence in Grade Six.
“A friend introduced me to public speaking, and I realised I wasn’t afraid to stand in front of people. Since then, it has brought me so much joy,” she said.
Okeke credits public speaking with helping her grow and express herself more freely.

Mfuphi’s interest in public speaking started even earlier, in Grade One, when her teachers encouraged her to take part.
“It taught me confidence and inspired me to keep improving,” she explained.
Her dedication has paid off, leading her to this exciting national stage.
Laerskool Goudrand proudly applauded the girls’ hard work and commitment.
