Lakeside Primary dominates cross-country once again

Lakeside Primary walked away with an impressive 16 out of 17 trophies, reaffirming its dominance in the Boksburg cross-country league.

Lakeside Primary has once again cemented its reputation as the powerhouse of cross-country in Boksburg.
At the official Ekurhuleni South District 6 Cross-Country Trophy Ceremony on August 13, the school walked away with an impressive 16 out of 17 trophies, reaffirming its dominance in the league.

Over the past three weeks, 19 schools competed fiercely in the league, showcasing speed, endurance, and determination.
When the final results were tallied, Lakeside’s supremacy was undeniable:
First place: Lakeside Primary: 5 089 points
Second place: Concordia Primary: 2 012 points
Third Place: Van Dyk Primary : 1 109 points

The principal of the school, Craig Jansen, praised the dedication of the learners and staff who contributed to the school’s continued success.
“This year we started the league with 260 athletes, and we are proud that 125 of them qualified for the district championships, taking place at Hoërskool E.G. Jansen on August 22,” he said.

While the school narrowly missed out on a clean sweep of all 17 trophies, as it achieved in 2024, Jansen said Lakeside still remains the benchmark for cross-country in the region.
“We had only one day to practise as a team, but our athletes rose to the challenge and made us proud,” he said.

Looking ahead, the school has its sights firmly set on the bigger stage.
“We are preparing to send 16 athletes to the provincial championships in Midrand on August 30. We are confident they will qualify for the national championships in Mpumalanga on October 4 and who knows, it might even be more than the expected number,” Jansen said.

The principal emphasised that Lakeside’s success is not just about medals and trophies, but about unity, commitment, and resilience.
“We are incredibly proud of every learner who represented Lakeside Primary. Your hard work, discipline, and team spirit have once again made history,” he said.

Jansen also extended his gratitude to the school’s community of parents and guardians.
“A heartfelt thank you goes to our families for their support. Your encouragement and presence at events played a huge role in motivating our learners to give their best,” he said.
