FOLLOW UP: Nine month on, family still seeks answers in Windmill Park pastor’s death

Nearly a year has passed since the tragic death of pastor Julius Dywili and four others, but the family remains in the dark as the investigation stalls.

Nine months have passed since the murder of Windmill Park pastor Julius Dywili and four other men, yet his family says they are still waiting for answers and justice.

The bodies of the men were discovered near a local church on November 20, last year.
Four of them were declared dead at the scene, while a fifth died on the way to the hospital. All bore multiple injuries, sparking shock and grief across the community.

Dywili, 42, was known for his deep commitment to his congregation and his tireless work with local youth. His sudden and violent death has left a gaping hole in the hearts of parishioners and neighbours alike.
Nompilo Ndlovu, Dywili’s sister-in-law, spoke of the family’s heartbreak and frustration over the lack of communication from authorities.

“How could this happen? Why hasn’t anyone told us anything about the investigation? Every day, we wait and hope for some news, but it’s like we’re invisible to the authorities,” she said.

The family reports that, despite numerous inquiries, they have received no substantial updates from the police. No arrests have been made, and details about the investigation remain scarce.

“We just want justice for Julius and the others. We need answers,” Ndlovu added.

The Boksburg Advertiser reached out to Dawn Park Police Station and did not get a comment by the time of publication.

The extended silence has left the family questioning the effectiveness and pace of the investigative process.
Community members described Dywili as a pillar of support and guidance, particularly for young people in Windmill Park.

“He always made time for the youth, ensuring they stayed on the right path. His loss is deeply felt,” said Banele Tete, one of the parishioners.

As months pass without resolution, the family’s grief is compounded by uncertainty. For them, every day without news or action prolongs the pain of losing a loved one under such violent circumstances.

The family is calling on authorities to provide transparency and to expedite the investigation. They say they are not just seeking justice for Dywili, but for all five men who lost their lives that day.
“We need closure. We need to know who is responsible and why this happened. Our lives have been turned upside down, and every day without answers makes it harder to heal.”
