Boksburg Correctional Services, in partnership with the National Prosecuting Authority, hosted a wellness day on September 19 filled with sport and teamwork.
The Boksburg Management Area of the Department of Correctional Services, in partnership with the Gauteng National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), hosted an interdepartmental employee health and wellness programme on September 19.
According to Boksburg Correctional Services spokesperson Sello Modise, the event aimed to promote a safe and healthy working environment while fostering unity, care, and ethical conduct across all occupational levels within the department.
The programme featured a variety of activities focusing on physical well-being and teamwork. Participants joined a 5km walk to encourage healthy lifestyle habits, engaged in tug-of-war contests full of excitement, and competed in soccer matches, displaying determination and camaraderie.
The atmosphere was described as vibrant, with staff enthusiastically participating in every activity.

Modise emphasised that the initiative went beyond sport and recreation.
“The health and wellness of employees directly impacts service delivery and the success of our department. By investing in programmes such as this, we are ensuring that our staff feel supported, motivated, and equipped to face the demands of their work,” he said.

He added that wellness initiatives are especially critical in high-pressure sectors such as correctional services, where employees are regularly exposed to challenging environments.
“Events like this create balance, reduce stress, and remind staff that their well-being is a priority. It also builds stronger bonds between colleagues and improves interdepartmental cooperation with our partners, such as the NPA,” Modise said.
The day concluded with encouragement from management, thanking employees for their participation and commitment to making the programme a success.
Modise reaffirmed that health and wellness initiatives will continue to be a central part of the Boksburg Management Area’s strategy to build a positive workplace culture.
