BAC’s Mokgola on target at City to City
He clocked a sub-37:00 to finish third in his category and 20th overall.
Isaac Mokgola delivered a near-flawless run at the City to City Ultra 10km race on September 28, smashing his sub-38 target to claim third place in the veteran men’s race.
Despite being far from his best, the Boksburg Athletic Club (BAC) athlete showed no signs of race rust as he powered down the finishing straight in his usual stride, crossing the line in 36:12 for a podium finish in his category and 20th overall.

“The race was fine. I enjoyed it, especially coming back from injuries and running 36 minutes without training. It shows that I’m coming back stronger this time,” he said.
Though pleased to have beaten his target, Mokgola knows the road to full fitness will be tough, particularly with the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon on October 19 at the top of his priority list.

“My focus now is to prepare for the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon in the next few weeks. I understand it’s very late to prepare for a marathon, but I have no pressure. I will just go and enjoy my race and hopefully finish under 02:40:00.”
In other results, Brigitte O’Connor clocked 46:56 for third place in the veteran women’s 10km race. She was 13th overall among the women.

Christina Silale impressed in the main 50km ultramarathon, which started at Marlboro Gautrain Station, wound through the Alexandra Township, and then took runners to Pretoria via the Old Pretoria Road. She finished 14th overall in the women’s race and fifth in the veteran women’s category, crossing the line at Pilditch Stadium inside the Pretoria Showgrounds in 03:59:40.
Coach Jabulani Gamede proved once again that age is just a number with another incredible performance, clocking an impressive 03:45:34 for second place in the over-60 men’s race. Zacharia Mogotsi finished 12th in the same category with a time of 04:55:09.
