Investigation ongoing into Villa Liza mother’s tragic death

The Dawn Park Police are investigating the death of 27-year-old Dimakatso Mofokeng, whose body was found near a local tavern on April 28.

The Dawn Park Police Station has confirmed that the investigation into the death of 27-year-old Dimakatso Mofokeng is ongoing.

The body of the mother of two was discovered on April 28, 2025, near a local tavern in Villa Liza.

According to Sergeant Nkemeleng Mabula, spokesperson for the police station, preliminary findings indicated that Mofokeng may have died from electrocution.
“At the scene where the deceased was found, loose electric cables were visible, running in the yard of a panel-beating workshop,” Mabula said.

She added that the panel beaters confirmed that cables had been lying on the ground in the area where Mofokeng was found.

Mabula explained that the landlord of the workshop had since removed the cables and buried them on the other side of the property.
“Investigations are ongoing, and the investigating officer is awaiting the detailed postmortem results,” she said.
The tragedy has left Mofokeng’s family devastated.

Described as a loving and respectful mother, Mofokeng left behind two children aged one and six.
Her grandmother, Mary Mofokeng, who helped raise her, expressed deep sorrow over the loss.
“Dimakatso was full of life, always caring for her children and family. We cannot understand why this happened. We need justice,” she said.

Cries for justice were heard throughout Villa Liza on May 3, when residents, local activists, and representatives of the ANC Women’s League marched through Windmill Park to the Dawn Park Police Station. Many held signs bearing Mofokeng’s name, chanting for accountability and demanding answers from authorities.

“We are here because Dimakatso’s life mattered,” said Thuli Nkosi, ANC Women’s League representative for Ward 99.

“She was found dead near a tavern, and yet there has been no visible action. We want the police to take responsibility and protect us, especially as women and mothers. We will continue supporting the family while seeking justice.”
