Join the fight against cancer at WJ Clements Stadium

Join the Sharney Blackway Foundation and Boksburg Central Football on October 25 at WJ Clements Stadium for a day of unity, hope, and fun walk.

The WJ Clements Stadium in Reiger Park will be transformed into a hub of hope, remembrance, and unity on October 25, for a cancer awareness walk and family fun day.

The event, to run from 08:00 to 16:00, is being organised by the Sharney Blackway Foundation in partnership with the Boksburg Central Football Association.
Their mission is to create a space where survivors, families, and supporters can stand together in solidarity against cancer while enjoying a vibrant day of community activities.

Participants are encouraged to dress in pink and white, the colours of awareness and hope, as they walk in honour of loved ones lost, those still fighting, and the survivors who inspire resilience every day. The walk will serve as the day’s central activity, symbolising the strength of a community determined to keep moving forward.

Blackway, founder of the foundation, said the initiative is about more than just awareness.
“We want people to feel the support of their community, to know they are not alone in this journey. This day is about unity, remembrance, and celebrating life.”

In addition to the walk, the programme promises an array of family-friendly fun activities to ensure that children, parents, and grandparents alike can enjoy the day together. From games and food stalls to interactive sessions, the event is designed to combine meaning with enjoyment.

Importantly, the organisers have kept the entry fees affordable and accessible: R60 for adults and R30 for children, ensuring that families from all walks of life can participate. Proceeds will go towards supporting cancer awareness initiatives and community outreach programmes.

Residents across Boksburg and surrounding areas are encouraged to gather their families, lace up their walking shoes, and join the movement.
As Blackway put it, “Every step we take together is a step closer to breaking the silence around cancer.”
