Rotary Club hosts Christmas market
Come along, celebrate the season, support the market and help make a difference in the community.
The festive spirit will shine a little brighter this year as the Rotary Club of Benoni Van Ryn hosts a Christmas Market on November 29 at Laerskool Westwood, all in aid of the school’s pantry which helps feed children in need.
The market, running from 11:00 to 17:00, promises a cheerful day out for the whole family and a chance to make a real difference.
Funds raised on the day will go directly towards keeping the school’s pantry stocked, ensuring that no child at Westwood goes hungry even when school’s out.
“Our pantry is managed by our youth worker and supports our less privileged learners,” explained Anelle Myburgh, head of marketing at Laerskool Westwood.
She said some learners rely on the school for two meals a day.
“During holidays we pack boxes of non-perishable food for their families and throughout the year we help wherever there’s a need,” she added.
The initiative, affectionately known as a lifeline for many local families, goes beyond just food support. Each December the team packs special Christmas boxes to ensure children have both food and festive joy while school is closed, and they also host a Christmas party for those on the list.
Beyond food assistance, the school’s fund helps with essentials such as clothing, stationery, haircuts, emergency medical needs and even participation in school activities, all made possible through the generosity of parents and sponsors.
Community members are encouraged to come along, shop local and spread some Christmas cheer for a cause that truly matters.
