Brave Chereez clinches three medals in gymnastics

In a major triumph, Boksburg’s very own Chereez Nel (10) achieved outstanding success at a recent gymnastics IAfrica Competition in Pretoria, claiming three medals.
The event brought together competitors from across the country.

Chereez delivered top-tier performances across multiple disciplines at the Pretoria competition, earning herself one gold in (Level 8, acrobatics), one silver (Level 5, acrobatics) and one bronze medal (Level 4, tumbling).

The feat demonstrates not only her athletic ability, but also her resilience and drive.

Her achievement is all the more remarkable given the broader context of her personal journey.

Beyond her sporting excellence, Chereez has shown extraordinary courage off the mat with a story that proved her fighting spirit.

In 2018, at a young age, she was diagnosed with an undifferentiated aggressive soft-tissue sarcoma (stage three) and underwent intensive treatment before ultimately being declared cancer-free.

Born and raised in Boksburg, Chereez has long been recognised for her dedication both in the gym and academically. Her parents, Angelique and Pieter, said they are extremely proud of their daughter’s achievement.
