Windmill Park gears up for festive community talent show
Local young performers will take centre stage on December 27, showcasing music, dance, poetry, and more, as Windmill Park comes together to celebrate creativity, uplift the community, and spread festive cheer.

Windmill Park will come alive with creativity on December 27 when the community hosts a talent show on the corner of De Waal and Gelderblom drives.
The event promises to be a highlight of the festive season, offering a platform for performers of all ages to showcase their skills while bringing the community together.
According to the organiser, Jacky Haas, the talent show is a way to bring light, hope, and joy to families in Windmill Park.
“Our community has faced its share of hardships this year. We wanted to create an event that celebrates local creativity, encourages our youth, and gives families something to look forward to. This is about more than just entertainment; it’s about uplifting spirits and building connections.”
A platform for every creative
The talent show will be open to a broad spectrum of artistic expression, including music, dance, rap, poetry, acting, visual performance art, and any other form of unique talent.
Jacky stressed that this is an inclusive platform where every young person with a talent, regardless of style, background, or experience, can participate.
“We want to highlight the incredible talent that exists in our community. Every performer will have the chance to be celebrated and to inspire others with their creativity. Whether it’s a solo rap performance, a group dance, a spoken word piece, or visual art, every contribution matters and will add to the energy of the day.”
Expected participants and registration
Based on early interest from local schools, youth groups, and community members, the organisers anticipate 20 to 30 participants.
The event promises a full afternoon of performances, feedback, and festive cheer:
Starting time: 12:00.
Main performances: 12:00 to 16:00.
Judging: 16:00 to 17:00.
A panel of community leaders, local artists, and creative professionals will serve as judges.

Community support is still needed
The organisers are calling on the broader Windmill Park community for support to make the talent show a success.
They need sponsors for cash prizes, stage décor, refreshments, transport where needed, gifts for the judges, volunteers to assist with the setup, registration, ushering, and security, assistance with equipment, which includes microphones, speakers, extension cables, seating, and a small stage setup.
“It will be appreciated if people can help spread the news and engage with youth groups.
“Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference. The talent show is a community effort, and the more hands and hearts involved, the more memorable it will be.”
Prizes and opportunities for winners
Jacky said performers will be judged on creativity, confidence, originality, and audience engagement. Winners will be selected based on a combination of judges’ scores and audience response.
The prize packages are designed to reward talent and encourage growth:
• R5 000 first place.
• R2 500 second place.
Food and meat hampers will be raffled.
The top musical act wins a studio recording session with Windmill Art Records.
“These prizes are not just rewards; they are tools to help our young people continue pursuing their passions. We want to support them in every way we can, from providing recognition to offering opportunities for further development,” said Jacky.
