With the festive season underway, a period traditionally marked by a sharp rise in road accidents and trauma cases, the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) is urging residents to support several upcoming mobile blood drives.
According to SANBS, community participation over the next few weeks is critical to bolstering already strained blood stocks and ensuring that blood stocks can meet the heightened demand.
Upcoming mobile blood drives in December:
- December 8: Parkdene Boulevard, 11:00–16:00
- December 9: Medicare 24, 08:30–15:00
- December 9: Medicross Boksburg, 09:00–15:00
- December 13: Food Lover’s Market Boksburg, 10:00–15:00
- December 15: Parkdene Boulevard, 11:00–16:00
- December 15: Witfield Square, 11:00–16:00
- December 18: Ravenswood Shopping Centre, 11:00–16:00
- December 23: Witfield Square, 11:00–16:00
- December 29: Parkdene Boulevard, 11:00–16:00
- December 30: Ravenswood Shopping Centre, 11:00–16:00
- Donor criteria
To donate blood, you must: - Weigh at least 50 kg.
- Be between 16 and 65 years old.
- Be in good health.
- Lead a sexually safe lifestyle.
- Consider your blood safe for transfusion.
- Wait 56 days between donations.
