NPO seeks support for back-to-school drive to help single parents
Thusang Community Development is collecting donated uniforms, shoes and stationery to ease the burden on single mothers in under-resourced areas as the new school year begins.

The Ramaphosa-based NPO, Thusang Community Development, calls on community members to help single mothers in under-resourced areas prepare their children for the new school year.
According to Lufuno Mudzuli, who founded the NPO, the rising costs of school uniforms, stationery and shoes continue to place enormous pressure on households, especially those where one parent carries the full responsibility of providing.
“We have launched a back-to-school donation drive to ensure learners from single-parent homes in the Ramaphosa informal settlement return to school with dignity, confidence, and the tools they need to succeed.
“The initiative targets families in under-resourced communities, where unemployment and limited access to resources make back-to-school preparations especially challenging.
“Back-to-school season is a stressful time for many single parents. Our goal is to ease that burden and ensure that no child feels excluded because of their family’s financial situation.”
Mudzuli said they are appealing for new or gently used school items that are clean and in good condition.
“Items like donated school uniforms and shoes, backpacks and stationery packs. Monetary contributions are also welcome and will be used to buy supplies for learners most in need.”
He emphasised that even small contributions can make a meaningful difference.
“One uniform, one backpack, or one stationery pack may seem small, but for a child and their mother, it represents hope and relief.”
