Armed robbers strike local jewellery store

Apparently, this is not the first time the store has been targeted by armed robbers.

A group of criminals targeted a jewellery store at East Rand Mall on February 11, making off with an undisclosed amount of jewellery.

According to a police report, the incident occurred at approximately 09:30 when five men, one of whom was armed with a firearm, stormed the store and held staff at gunpoint, before helping themselves to valuable jewellery and fleeing the scene.
No shots were fired, and no injuries were reported.

The suspects allegedly smashed glass display cabinets with a hammer to gain access to the jewellery. The value of the stolen items has not yet been confirmed.
Police and local security officers responded to the scene, but the suspects had already fled.

A case of business robbery has been registered.
Apparently, this is not the first time the store has been targeted by armed robbers.
East Rand Mall management indicated that a press statement on the incident will be issued.
