Go to the clinic, not the hospital if you have a minor ailment
The hospital is encouraging the public to visit their nearest clinics for minor conditions, saying the referral system will help reduce long waiting times and ensure emergency and specialised cases receive priority care.

Tambo Memorial Hospital is urging the public to use their nearest primary healthcare facility (clinic) for the treatment of minor medical conditions instead of coming to the hospital.
According to spokesperson Zoliswa Nzeku, this helps Tambo prioritise emergency and specialised cases, reducing congestion and long waiting times.
“Tambo Memorial is a regional healthcare facility that provides level two healthcare services. Patients are, therefore, encouraged to use their local clinics as the first point of contact for healthcare services.
Should further medical care be required, the clinic will provide a referral letter to the hospital.
“The public is reminded that co-operation in following the referral system is essential in improving service delivery and ensuring that patients receive appropriate care at the correct level.
“Emergency and critical cases may present directly to the hospital for immediate medical attention.
“The hospital remains committed to delivering quality, accessible healthcare and urged the community to work together in making the referral system effective for the benefit of all.”
