Ekurhuleni police arrested several suspects during a crime prevention operation conducted in Reiger Park as part of Operation Shanela 2.
According to Ekurhuleni SAPS district spokesperson captain Neldah Sekgobela, the operation was led by acting district commissioner Johanna Ngoma and targeted crime hotspots in the area.
“During the operation, police arrested 20 suspects for being illegal immigrants, nine for possession of drugs, one for dealing in drugs and four for possession of illicit cigarettes.
“Members of the district’s Crime Intelligence Unit also assisted in the operation after conducting prior investigations, which led to the arrest of nine suspects linked to drug-related offences.”


Sekgobela said police confiscated drugs, including crystal meth and Mandrax, during the operation.
“Other items seized included dagga, Cat, illicit cigarettes, alcohol, ammunition and a replica firearm.
“Police also issued 27 traffic fines to motorists in the area, amounting to R18 500. In addition to the law enforcement activities, police engaged with the community during the operation. Officers visited a shopping complex in Reiger Park where they addressed issues related to contact crime and substance abuse and shared crime prevention tips with residents.”
Sekgobela said police will continue to conduct similar operations aimed at removing criminals from communities and improving safety in the area.
