The Greater Boksburg Child Welfare is in desperate need of support from the public.
Chairperson Dorry Naidoo explained their biggest hinderance is limited funding from the Department of Social Development.

“This funding has not been increased in five years, which puts a strain on our ability to supplement salaries and keep up with our operational costs.

“Our call to the public is for sponsors, donors, volunteers and more members to provide sustainable support to us and assist with fundraising in particular.”

Bargain Corner needs premises
Being notified 10 years ago that they couldn’t continue to use a premises on the corner of Trichardts and Cason roads for their charity shop, Bargain Corner, was a hard blow to child welfare, Naidoo added.

“We have attempted to keep the charity shop going from a room on our premises but this hasn’t worked out well.
“The shop has shown no growth and interest has dwindled, along with donations of quality items for us to resell.”

Despite several appeals in Boksburg Advertiser and other efforts to secure another shop space, there has been no response to these appeals from the public or businesses/landlords.

The organisation is looking for a reasonable fixed rental from any prospective landlord for the duration of the lease.
The chairperson appealed to the community to support the organisation by donating items in good condition for resale, and to come along and shop for bargains.

Boksburg Child Welfare is located next to the town hall on the corner of Trichardts Road and Commissioner Street in the CBD.

Estate agents or landlords who may have prospective property for the charity shop to reopen in the CBD will be opening an opportunity for a child welfare to substantially supplement their income every month.

The shop will also require a volunteer to manage and operate the shop on a temporary basis.

Anyone who wants to get involved in any way to help Boksburg Child Welfare continue its desperately needed work in the community should contact Dorry Naidoo on 083 278 2386 or email dorry625@gmail.com.
