Japarova serves her way to GETA Super Eight title
Despite her opponent's fightback in the second set, Japarova never let off and eventually clinched the title in straight sets.
Unseeded Marjan Japarova delivered a composed and clinical performance to upset fourth seed Kristin Woodcock in straight sets and capture the American Express Gauteng Ekurhuleni Tennis Association (GETA) Super Eight Series women’s title at the GETA Complex in Lakefield on July 11.
Japarova claimed a deserved 6-2, 6-4 victory after overcoming a spirited second-set fightback from Woodcock to seal the championship.

The unseeded star dictated play from the outset, using a powerful first serve and aggressive returns to disrupt Woodcock’s rhythm and neutralise her baseline game. Her relentless pressure forced errors from the fourth seed, allowing Japarova to race through the opening set 6-2.
Woodcock responded with renewed determination in the second set, producing some of her best tennis of the match. She matched Japarova shot for shot as the set remained evenly poised at 3-3 and later 4-4, raising hopes of forcing a deciding set.

However, Japarova refused to surrender the initiative. She produced a series of booming serves and clean winners at the crucial moments to edge ahead before closing out the match in style. She celebrated the championship with a triumphant fist pump after converting match point.
