Gun violence claims another life in Reiger Park
A Sunday afternoon of panic in Reiger Park left one man dead and a woman in hospital after two separate shootings that residents say are linked to ongoing gang activity.
Reiger Park was again rocked by violent crime on July 12 when a man was shot dead and a woman shot in the leg in separate incidents.
Police and family confirmed Bradley Marlyn Topandas (38) was found dead from a gunshot wound outside a barber shop in Leon Ferreira Drive at about 17:00. His phone and cash were reportedly stolen.
At around 17:30, gunshots struck the house of Monic Peterson (31) in Martin Du Preez Street. She was shot in the leg when she went outside to see what was going on. She was transported to hospital for treatment.
Yvonne, Topandas’s mother, said she is heartbroken and unsure whether to make an official statement because, according to her, the police failed to arrive to take her statement.

She said, “I feel very bad and hurt. The police haven’t even come to take a statement, so I’m not even sure if I want to open a case.”
The same day, at around 17:30, suspects opened fire on a Martin Du Preez Street home while its residents were inside. The family ran outside to see what was going on.
Police acknowledged that they are looking into both incidents but that only one case has been opened thus far.
No motives for the shootings have been established.
