Boksburg volunteers rally for Mandela Day

As South Africa marks Mandela Day today, groups explain why volunteering matters and how local NPOs support their work

Driven by a combination of personal experience, local need, and the chance to make a noticeable difference, volunteers from Hope In Crisis, Thusang Foundation, Tshepo Ya Sechaba, and Urban Ruins in Boksburg are stepping up to help their community as part of Mandela Day celebration.

These volunteers told us they do this to support disadvantaged neighbours, develop skills and help maintain community initiatives.

Each NPO offers useful assistance like co-ordination, supplies, and training that puts goodwill into practice.

Small deeds of kindness, such as food drives, youth mentoring, clean-ups, and disaster aid, have a long-lasting local impact and encourage others to help.

Volunteers stressed the importance of giving back because it maintains Mandela’s legacy of service at the local level, builds community relationships, and aids those who are most vulnerable.
