Boksburg manufacturer brings comfort to animals

Made from durable industrial strength PVC, the beds can withstand insatiable chewing while spills are easily cleaned and dried.

A single animal adoption has become the driving force behind a Boksburg-based manufacturer, who is turning industrial off-cuts into comfort for local animal shelters.

On March 31, AfriSupply in Anderbolt once again loaded is truck with 20 sustainable custom-made PVC dog beds. Its destination, the Germiston SPCA.

Director Mims Williams, an animal lover and champion for responsible manufacturing explained that the creative spark came after an employee, Mellissa Etzabeth arrived as work, swooning about the latest furry addition to their family.

“Roman was adopted from the Boksburg SPCA and Mellissa was talking about how conventional animal beds lacked durability as well as easy cleaning solutions,” she said.

“As manufacturers of PVC containment products amongst other items, my eyes were immediately drawn to our off-cut bin where unusable material eventually lands up before being recycled.”

Armed with a pencil, Mims made a couple of rough sketches and by the day’s end, a custom-made doggie bed was loaded into Mellissa’s car, ready to offer comfort to her pup.

Maintaining the momentum and preventing bins from reaching capacity, the team systematically produces medium and large beds, which have already been donated to the Boksburg SPCA, with the latest consignment making its way to Germiston along with a cab loaded with treats.

“Animals play a huge role in our lives, they are not only our companions but beloved members of our family,” said Mims.

“Being a family-centred business, we strive to reach out to our community and charity organisations, assisting them as they assist others. These beds may contain off-cut materials, but each one is sewn with love and care.”

Made from durable industrial strength PVC, the beds can withstand insatiable chewing while spills are easily cleaned and dried.

Added to that, the beds form an insulation barrier between cold cement and puppers, while keeping them warm during the winter months.

What started as a simple act of love for one dog has grown into a heart-project that brings comfort to so many more.
