Court in Brief
The following cases were recently finalised at the Boksburg/Vosloorus Magistrate's Courts:
Murder
Antonio Majanvane Sithole (33) from Mapleton was sentenced to 10 years behind bars on September 13 for stabbing a man to death.
He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on September 13. Sithole stabbed the man on September 21, last year.
Assault GBH
• Amos Thembinkosi Mgxagxama (38) from Reiger Park was sentenced to one-year imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years, on September 12 for stabbing a man with a knife.
He pleaded guilty and was found guilty of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm on September 12.
Mgxagxama stabbed the man on May 21.
• Shadrak Lempetje of Angelo informal settlement pleaded guilty to assault GBH, was found guilty and sentenced on September 14.
On May 15, he hit a woman with his fist and kicked and bit her.
He was sentenced to 18 months in jail, and suspended for five years.
Theft
• On September 15, Ntombi Khumalo (27) from Yeoville was handed an R6 000 fine or six months’ imprisonment plus a further 12 months in jail, suspended for five years, for stealing baby and toddler clothing worth R6 295,56 from Jet.
The theft happened on August 3 and Khumalo pleaded guilty and was found guilty on the day of the sentencing.
• Vusi Gift Ngobeni (34) from Tembisa was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment, of which nine months of imprisonment is suspended for three years and declared unfit to possess a firearm on September 15 for theft.
He pleaded not guilty and was found guilty on September 15. Ngobeni stole R13 500 from X Kids Shop on October 30, last year.
• Thuso Mofokeng (30) from Jerusalem informal settlement was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment, of which half is suspended for five years, on September 13 for stealing.
He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on September 9.
Mofokeng stole two two-plate stoves, one electric kettle and four DVD players to the value of R2 180 from a woman.
• Khulumani Moyo (36) from Randburg was found guilty of theft and contravening the Immigration Act on September 5.
He pleaded guilty to charges of theft and contravention of Section 49 (1)(a) of the Immigration Act 13 of 2002.
Moyo stole items such as natural sweet wine on July 28. It was also found that he is in the country without valid documentation.
On September 15, he was sentenced to an R3 000 fine or six months in prison, wholly suspended for five years for theft and thirty days direct imprisonment for contravening the Immigration Act.
• Clayton Alberts (23) from Reiger Park was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for three years, and declared unfit to possess a firearm on September 13 for stealing. He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on September 13.
Alberts stole a pair of ladies’ shoes from Checkers Hyper in September, last year.
• A 28-year-old man from Boksburg North was sentenced to three years behind bars on a charge of theft on September 14.
Arnold Carter pleaded guilty and was found guilty on August 22. He stole a bottle of tequila to the value of R614.99 from Tops at Spar.
• Phila Mkhize (30) from Vosloorus was sentenced to eight months behind bars on September 14 for stealing.
He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on September 14.
Mkhize stole a man’s fridge worth R9 500 and a kettle worth R200 on July 22.
Possession of drugs
Madelein Botes (36) from Ravensklip pleaded guilty and was found guilty of possession of drugs on September 13.
She was found in possession of 2.75 grams of methaqualone on March 1.
The sentence was postponed for three years and the accused was released unconditionally but ordered to appear before the court if called upon to do so before the expiration of the said period.
Trespassing
Sean Bruwer of Witfield was sentenced for trespassing and malicious injury to property on September 13.
He pleaded guilty to both counts, which relate to an incident on June 29 when he unlawfully entered a property in Witfield and caused R6 000 damage to the alarm cables and a ceiling.
Bruwer was sentenced to an R2 000 fine or 14 months in jail.
