The following cases were recently finalised the Boksburg/Vosloorus Magistrate’s Courts:

Rape
Celokuhle Khumalo (39) of Windmill Park was sentenced to an effective 25 years’ imprisonment on November 3 for raping a 16-year-old girl and pointing an object that resembled a firearm at her.

He pleaded not guilty to both charges on October 3 and was found guilty on the day of sentencing.

The rape took place in Windmill Park on August 9, 2020.

The sentence was 15 years (count one, rape) and 10 years (count two, pointing of anything which is likely to lead a person to believe it is a firearm). He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Magistrate Harichand presided and prosecutor Mbonani represented the State.

Robbery with aggravating circumstances
On November 7, Dingaan Mavundla (38) from Villa Liza was sentenced to an effective 30 years in prison for robbery with aggravating circumstances and attempted murder.

He pleaded not guilty to both charges on October 12.

On October 21, last year, Mavundla stole a woman’s TV and other items while pointing a firearm at her, and shot her, in Villa Liza.

The sentence was 20 years’ imprisonment (count one, robbery with aggravating circumstances) and 10 years (count two, attempted murder).

Magistrate Harichand presided and prosecutor Mnyandu represented the State.

Possession of stolen property
On November 4, Sibusiso Sibangakonge Ndlala (36) from Windmill Park pleaded guilty to, was found guilty of and sentenced on a charge of possession of stolen property.

On June 9, he was found in possession of stolen cellphones, among other things, in Dawn Park.

The passing of the sentence was postponed for five years and Ndlala was released unconditionally but can be ordered to appear before court before the expiration date.

Magistrate Viviers presided and prosecutor Maluleke represented the State.

Pointing a firearm
Leonard Mududzi Kunene from Rondekop was sentenced to an effective six years behind bars for assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, firearms pointing and malicious injury to property, and declared unfit to possess a firearm, on November 4.

He pleaded not guilty to all charges on June 6, but was found guilty on the day of the sentencing.

On May 31, 2020, he assaulted a woman, damaged her cellphone and pointed a firearm at a man in Dawn
Park.

The sentence was five years (count one, assault GBH), six years (count two, firearms pointing) and one year (count three, malicious injury to property).

The court ordered the sentences in counts one and three run concurrently with that of count one.

Magistrate Harichand presided and prosecutor Mbonani represented the State.

Theft
• On November 14, Jaque Steenkamp (26) from Mpumalanga was sentenced to 24 months’ imprisonment, of which 18 months is suspended for five years, for theft.

He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on the same day. On March 18, Steenkamp stole R80 000 from a woman in Boksburg.

Magistrate Havenga presided.

• On November 11, Tebogo Joseph Modise (46) of Johannesburg pleaded guilty to a charge of theft, found guilty and sentenced to three years behind bars, declared unfit to possess a firearm and warned he is in danger of being declared a habitual criminal.

He stole food to the value of R125.98 from a store on June 19.

Magistrate Havenga presided.
