Police warn of bogus tenants robbing estate agents
Rental property owners targeted by a crime syndicate.
The Dawn Park SAPS warns owners of rental properties to be on the lookout for a group of people who are robbing property owners in Dawn Park, Windmill Park and Villa Liza while pretending to be potential tenants.
According to the Dawn Park SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Nkemeleng Mabula, many of such cases have been opened at the station this month.
“The syndicate targets unsuspecting estate agents or rental property owners. They make an appointment to view the property then hold them up at gunpoint, steal their belongings and demand electronic payments to be sent to them,” she explained.
“We advise rental property owners to ask someone to accompany them when a potential tenant asks to view the property.
“Property owners must remain vigilant and write down the registration number of the viewer’s car when they meet as this may help us to locate the suspects.”
