Woman arrested for bribery, possession of pharmaceuticals

A search uncovered four boxes containing 50 bottles each of codeine cough syrup.

A 38-year-old woman was arrested in Boksburg when she allegedly tried to bribe EMPD officers after she was found in possession of a large amount of pharmaceutical medication, on January 31.

According to EMPD spokesperson Kelebogile Thepa, it was at about 15:00 when patrolling members of the EMPD Specialised Services and Gauteng Traffic Police Specialist units stopped a VW Polo sedan occupied by a man and woman.

They pulled the car over and a search uncovered four boxes containing 50 bottles each of codeine cough syrup.

The Polo appeared to be an e-hailing vehicle and the woman was a customer being transported.

“While interviewing the pair, the woman proposed a bribe of R1 000 and she was then immediately handcuffed and taken to Boksburg Police Station.

“She is facing a charge of bribery and possession of pharmaceutical medication and will appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon,” explained Thepa.

The origin of the medication is still under investigation.
