Three unlicenced guns found in car at Van Ryn Deep

All the serial numbers had been removed on the firearms.

Three unlicensed firearms and 15 live rounds of ammunition were discovered inside a white Toyota Corolla at the Van Ryn Deep SAPS Pound on February 8.

According to EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, the discovery came after officers received information that the vehicle was used by a suspect who was arrested in Kempton Park in October.

“The suspect was arrested for the possession of counterfeit money and the vehicle was taken in for further investigation at the pound.

“The recovery was carried out by members of the EMPD Specialised Task Team (STT) and the SAPS Northern Region Intelligence Unit.”

“Upon searching the vehicle, two firearms were found hidden under the cover of the air conditioner compartment and another one under the cover of the carbon compartment.

“All the firearms, namely Girsan Regard, CZ75 and Beretta S66 pistols with fifteen live rounds, had removed serial numbers,” said Thepa.
