An immigrant who tried to bribe a police officer with R50 to certify a copy of an ID that did not belong to him was arrested at the Reiger Park Police Station on February 3.
According to the Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson, Constable Johannes Msimanga, the man had someone else’s South African ID copy that he wanted certified.
“When asked to produce the original ID as part of the verification process, he tried to bribe the officer helping him.
“Sergeant Bernard Magane immediately arrested the man. People must know that police officers are not allowed to certify documents without going through the verification process first,” explained Msimanga.
The Reiger Park SAPS pleads with the community to bring the original documents when they want to certify copies of those documents at the police station.
