Assault GBH
A man (28) was sentenced to 10 months behind bars and declared unfit to possess a firearm on April 20 for assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.
Anthony Benjamin pleaded guilty and was found guilty on March 9.
On February 15, Benjamin hit a man with a brick.
Magistrate Cobina presided, and prosecutor Khaliswayo represented the State.
Housebreaking with the intent to steal and theft
Daniel Mlungisi Khoza (21) and Phineus Rammekwa were each sentenced to three years imprisonment and declared unfit to possess a firearm on April 28 for housebreaking with the intent to steal and theft.
They pleaded guilty and were found guilty as charged on the day of sentencing.
The men broke into the transformer room ventilator at Barnes Steel Powder Tech and stole copper cables.
Magistrate Havenga presided, and prosecutor Lingani represented the State.
Murder
Neo Thobei (18) from Villa Liza was sentenced to 15 years in prison on April 12 for murder.
He faced charges of murder (count one) and possession of a dangerous weapon (count two). He pleaded guilty and was found guilty of count two and not guilty of count one.
On March 14, 2016, he killed Sipho Mashele.
Magistrate Harichand presided, and prosecutor Ferreira represented the State.
Sphelele Musa Mzandile Sibiya (32) was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for murder on April 26.
He pleaded not guilty and was found guilty on April 26. Sibiya was also charged with kidnapping but was acquitted.
Sibiya killed Sifiso Ngubeni in Vosloorus last May.
Magistrate Harichand presided and prosecutor Mbonani represented the State.
Malicious damage to property
Wayne Victor Mocke (63) from Bardene was sentenced on April 21 to 12 months imprisonment for malicious damage to property. Eight months imprisonment was wholly suspended for five years, and he was declared unfit to possess a firearm.
He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on February 9.
Mocke damaged a vehicle bonnet, windscreen, door and microwave on January 19.
Magistrate Cobina presided, and prosecutor Khaliswayo represented the State.
