Police officer gunned down at home in Villa Liza

The motive at this stage looks like robbery.

A newly appointed constable at Dawn Park SAPS, MF Ramohlola, was shot multiple times and killed on July 2.
It’s also alleged that his cellphone went missing at the crime scene.

According to national police spokesperson Colonel Athlenda Mathe, the 27-year-old constable was at his place of residence in Villa Liza when he was killed by unknown suspects.

“The motive at this stage looks like a robbery. We have mobilised all resources to apprehend the suspects behind the killing and the matter has also been referred to the Hawks for further investigation.

“National commissioner General Fannie Masemola remains concerned about the number of police killings,” said Mathe.

He added that R25-million has been set aside for the safety and security of officers, on and off duty, this financial year.

When the Boksburg Advertiser interviewed the neighbours of the slain officer, they said that on the day when he was killed, they were also ambushed by three men wearing balaclavas who held them at gunpoint. They suspect it was the same people who shot the police officer.

“The criminals came into our property while we were offloading a bakkie and demanded we show them where a security guard lives. We told them that we don’t know any security guards that lives in our area.

“Then they asked us where did we hide the gun and searched us. When they didn’t find a gun they told us they will come back,” said the couple, adding their children were present and are now traumatised.

“We are now living in fear and always looking over our shoulders,” the neighbours said.

The memorial service for Ramohlola was held at Impact Church on July 6.
