The Reiger Park SAPS welcome the sentence of 15 years imprisonment handed down by the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court to a convicted armed robber.
According to Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson Constable Johannes Msimanga, the accused, Willington Mampula, was sentenced on November 13 for a house burglary that took place in Road Reserve Ramaphosa informal settlement in 2019.
As part of the sentencing, he was declared unfit to possess a firearm.
“Mampula and two balaclava-clad accomplices forced their way into a house in Road Reserve, where they held a man and his partner at gunpoint and demanded the keys to the victim’s VW Golf 4.”
The couple surrendered the keys to the assailants, who went to the VW Golf 4 parked outside the house and drove away in it.
The case was assigned to Detective Sergeant Mlungisi Mabena, whose thorough investigation led to the arrest of Mampula in November 2019. Investigators also managed to arrest one of his accomplices in the Free State in November 2020. The second accused turned State witness in the house burglary case. The third suspect is still at large.
Reiger Park SAPS station commander Lieutenant Colonel Bongani Dube said it felt good to see the victims receive the justice they deserve.
“I’m happy with the court’s final decision. We will not tolerate any crime. This case serves as an example that every person in the country must obey the law,” said Dube.
