Four suspects were caught, two firearms found and stolen goods recovered after private security companies, the police and EMPD jumped into action when they heard a report at about 11:35 yesterday (December 18) that an armed robbery had taken place at Cash Crusaders, The Square, Rietfontein Road.

Graphite Security units were instrumental in pursuing the suspects, who had fled from the shopping centre in a blue Toyota Corolla.

The security company confirmed a chase ensued and on the corner of Rietfontein and Madeley roads, the Corolla was intercepted at which point one of the suspects opened fire on Graphite units, prompting a return of fire.

One suspect was apprehended here by Graphite units. The other three fled with Graphite in pursuit.

The collaborative efforts of various security firms and law enforcement agencies were crucial in tracking down the remaining suspects.

According to information from Graphite Security, their units found two suspects with a firearm at Maritz Sand & Stone and they, along with the firearm, were handed over to the EMPD.

A fourth suspect entered the premises of Global Elite Protection Services and Graphite requested entry and he was arrested and handed over the police.

A second firearm was retrieved later by Global Special Vehicle Tactical and assisting units.

According to Graphite Security, a laptop, tablets, cellphones and boom boxes were stolen in the robbery and all recovered.
