SAPS arrest Boksburg North man for possessing police uniform

Investigations are ongoing to determine the origin of the police uniform and whether it is connected to other criminal activities.

Authorities acting on a tip-off arrested a 24-year-old Boksburg North man after finding him in possession of a police uniform, a gas gun and live ammunition.

According to the Boksburg North police, a team of officers conducting a crime prevention operation received information about the suspect.

They proceeded to the address on Second Street, Boksburg North, where they asked for permission to search the property.
The search uncovered the police uniform and the weapons, and the officers arrested the man, who faces charges of possession of a police uniform, a firearm and ammunition.

Officers pounce on this 25-year-old man and uncover a police uniform and illegal weapons.

Blue-light robbers
The police stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the origin of the police uniform and whether it is connected to other criminal activities, such as blue-light robberies.
A series of blue-light robberies early last year rocked Boksburg and surrounding towns.

In April, police pounced on three men believed to be involved. The suspects, driving a white VW Polo, were arrested on Turf Road, Anderbolt. Officers found them with a Gauteng Traffic police uniform, including reflector jackets, caps, boots and a firearm holster.

In Dawn Park a few weeks earlier, officers arrested a man believed to be the mastermind behind these robberies. He was found with police equipment, unlicenced firearms, and a VW Polo reportedly hijacked in the North West.
The police confiscated multiple blue lights, a rifle, a pistol, ammunition, a police uniform and insignia of the Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Madibeng traffic police and false government vehicle registration plates.
