EMPD takes guns, ammo off streets

The suspect was scheduled to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon.

EMPD officers arrested a man found with unlicensed firearms and ammunition in Dawn Park on January 15.

According to the EMPD, acting on a tip-off about a suspicious white Nissan NP200 seen carrying beds in the township, the EMPD’s Community Liaison Unit members acted swiftly, finding the vehicle matching the given description.

They signalled for the driver to pull over when he drove next to the entrance of the Dawn Park Police Station.
On searching the vehicle, the officers found a silver Smith and Wesson 45 calibre pistol with the serial number still intact, 140 live rounds with a magazine, and a black Taurus revolver with a wooden grip with 95 live ammunition and 75 live shotgun shells.

Officers immediately arrested the man (44) and detained him at the Dawn Park police Station, confiscating all the weapons.
He faces charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and will soon appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
