Latest crime reports in Boksburg

The latest police reports again highlighted Boksburg’s wave of motor vehicle-related crimes involving what the SAPS believe are fake traffic cops.

Beware of fake metro traffic cops in Boksburg hijacking vehicles
The Boksburg SAPS warn motorists about bogus traffic cops after many drivers were robbed and had their cars hijacked by men impersonating traffic cops in Boksburg.

The men wear police uniforms and use a white VW Polo fitted with blue lights to pull over unsuspecting drivers. The identified hotspots include the Rondebult Road off-ramp from the N17 westbound and Commissioner Street and Van Dyk Road in the Boksburg East industrial area.

In one of the latest incidents, the victim (a 23-year-old man) was ambushed in broad daylight when approaching the intersection of Commissioner Street and Van Dyk Road on May 6.
He was driving a delivery vehicle (a white Hyundai H100) when the so-called cops driving the VW Polo stopped him.

“Two unknown males in metro police uniform approached him, and asked to see his driver’s licence. Thereupon, the ‘officers’ forced the driver and his assistant into their Polo, where they blindfolded their faces, tied them with cable ties and told them they were under arrest because the driver didn’t have his passport with him at the time,” explained Boksburg SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Ntsako Ledwaba.
“The suspects later told the victims they (the ‘cops’) wanted only the vehicle. They took the victim’s cellphones and money, drove them to an unknown location and dumped them there.
“The complainant later went to the police station to report the matter. With the help of a tracking company, their work vehicle was found partially stripped in Dobsonville.”

Hijacked
In another hijacking, criminals recently tricked a driver into pulling over his employer’s truck after telling him it had a flat tyre. They then hijacked the vehicle.
He was driving on the R554 when the trio, in a green Volvo, duped him into stopping. After stopping, two occupants in the Volvo jumped onto the truck and threatened him with a firearm.
They drove in the truck with him and later forced him into another car, with the pair driving away in the truck and dumping the employee at an unknown location.

Boksburg CBD PEP store robbed again
In broad daylight, a gang of four ransacked the PEP store on Commissioner Street in the Boksburg CBD on May 2.
Police reports indicate that the robbers arrived at the store and one stood guard at the entrance, preventing customers from entering or exiting.

Two of them threatened the store manager with firearms, telling him they were on duty and he must not disturb them. They took a Samsung A16 cellphone and an undisclosed amount of money and fled. The robbers fired no shots, and there were no injuries reported.

Robbed
On May 1, in broad daylight, three armed criminals driving in a Toyota Cressida and posing as customers robbed the Monati Tavern on the corner of Commissioner and Victor streets in Boksburg. Initially, they asked for a 750ml bottle of Jameson and pretended they wanted to pay.
Suddenly, they pointed a firearm at the worker and demanded money. They emptied the till and took alcohol and a cellphone before fleeing.
