Staff injured in shooting at local restaurant, suspect arrested
The firearm used in the shooting was also seized, along with ammunition.
A 34-year-old man is scheduled to appear in court today (October 28) in connection with a shooting at a popular restaurant on the corner of North Rand and Rondebult roads on October 25, which left two staff members hospitalised.
In a statement from the establishment, Cappello Boksburg, they explained that at around 22:30 a person was refused entry to the venue due to non-compliance with the dress code.
Ekurhuleni police spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela confirmed this, stating that one of the two men who arrived at the door was indeed denied access for this reason.
“He apparently went back to a vehicle, seemingly to change, but when he returned he had a firearm and allegedly fired 10 shots from outside the establishment toward staff and patrons. The suspect then fled the scene in his friend’s car, leaving the friend behind,” she added.
“One of the staff members was shot in the leg and the other sustained three gunshot wounds to his leg and one to his stomach. Both victims were rushed to hospital. ”
Sekgobela and the venue confirmed the suspect was arrested the following morning. Police also seized a firearm and ammunition during the arrest.
