Resolving waste collection and management problems
The team is formed after Ekurhuleni residents were left with heaps of dirt piling up on the pavements for weeks amid the metro’s rubbish collection backlog.
Residents who are still facing rubbish collection issues are urged to contact the teams of officials formed to help get waste issues addressed.
According to Ekurhuleni metro spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, in an effort to improve the quality of waste removal services in the region, the city has established a team of officials who have the responsibility of handling all issues related to the service from ratepayers.
“The members are deployed to the different towns in the city and we plead with residents, who have waste removal services or illegal dumping concerns or have suggestions, to contact the team members in their respective areas.”

The team was formed after Ekurhuleni residents had been left with heaps of dirt piling up on the pavements for weeks amid the metro’s rubbish collection backlog.
The metro admitted that the streets of some of the Ekurhuleni towns were left stinking as a result of shortages of trucks and other resources.
Some of the residents who contacted the Boksburg Advertiser and others who took to social media to share their frustration said they had experienced collection delays of up to three weeks.
Following the mounting complaints from residents, the solid waste management service teams have over the past few weeks been grappling to clear the backlog.
Dlamini said that services are now back to normal in many areas, except for a few areas where waste collections services are one to two days behind schedule. He explained that with the city’s operational recovery plan underway, it is expected that all the issues will be addressed soonest.
