Suburbs enter fourth day without power
Many Boksburg North suburbs and industrial areas remained without power for a fourth day as technicians work to repair cables damaged in an attempted theft.
Many Boksburg North suburbs and industrial areas remain without power for a fourth day as technicians work to repair presumably faulty cables supplying substations in the affected areas.
The outage began on Friday night, plunging homes and businesses into darkness and disrupting mobile networks and traffic signals.
The affected areas include most of the Boksburg North suburbs, Jet Park, Witfield and Comet. Areas reconnected on Saturday include Plantation and its surroundings.
Metro spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said engineers had worked around the clock since Friday, checking infrastructure for repairs to reconnect the affected areas.
“The teams are continuing the work to identify, access and fix the problem following an attempted cable theft. This is, however, taking some time because the affected cables are laid on the South African National Roads Agency’s (Sanral) servitude line. The process to get a wayleave from Sanral has delayed the restoration of the power supply,” explained Dlamini.
In the meantime, the city has implemented load rotation to the affected areas between 08:00 and 17:00, and urges customers to treat electrical networks as live while work is ongoing.
Further updates will be provided.
