Massive blackout hits Boksburg

Information gathered suggests that faulty cables are behind the prolonged outages.

Large parts of Boksburg have since last night been plunged into darkness, shutting businesses and causing a widespread mobile network outage.

This follows unplanned outages affecting almost all the Boksburg North suburbs and Plantation.

City technicians have been dispatched to investigate and fix the problem. Power supply has been restored in some suburbs, including Plantation.

Whiles the metro has not yet confirmed the root cause, information received by this publication suggests that faulty cables are behind the prolonged outages.

Ward 22 councillor Madelaine Muller said she has been begging for answers from the municipality since the outage began last night, but the relevant department has allegedly been giving her the runaround.

Meanwhile, Ward 32 councillor Marius de Vos said he escalated the matter to city technicians, but he could also not immediately obtain proper answers.
