A man found killed in Road Reserve informal settlement

The Reiger Park SAPS will not let crime to prevail in its area.

A man was found dead at 08:30 at Road Reserve informal settlement on July 31.

According to the Reiger Park spokesperson, Constable Zanele Motaung, the police were notified around 08:45 by a passer-by about a lifeless body at the sports field of the Road Reserve informal settlement.

“The police found a lifeless body of a man with stab wounds on the upper body. It is believed that the dead man fought another man who was with his girlfriend the day before he was found killed.

“There are a lot of killings in Reiger Park and neighbouring areas, but we cannot easily assume that there is a serial killer on the loose. From our investigations, most of the killings are a result of domestic violence that happens to people who are going or coming from taverns.

“Domestic violence mostly happens because of illegal shebeens. As the police, we have closed several of these illegal shebeens in our ongoing high-density operations. Through these operations, we are also in the process of stopping these killings and other criminal activities happening around our area,” said Motaung.

She added the main purpose of the high-density operations is to stop criminal activities in Reiger Park and the neighbouring areas.

“As the Reiger Park police, we deploy patrolling teams from the crime prevention unit to combat these crimes.
“A murder case has been opened at the Reiger Park police station for this recent murder and there are ongoing investigations,” explained Motaung.

“We also need the community of the areas that we serve as the police to work with us, so we can combat crime,” clarified Motaung.

Anyone who has information about the murder can call the Reiger Park Police Station on 011 960 0220/011 960 0219.
