Search underway for missing PRASA security constable

The Reiger Park police and PRASA officials were in full motion on August 17 searching for a PRASA security constable, Asavela Isaac Mncono, who went missing on August 6.

According to the Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson, Constable Zanele Motaung, the constable was involved in two vehicle accidents in Ramaphosa before disappearing.

“It is believed he went into the veld next to Delmore Gardens after the last accident. We have been searching for him for a week but our efforts are not yielding any tangible results. The K9 unit assisted us today but couldn’t locate him,” said Motaung.

“There are ongoing investigations concerning the missing official and we have registered Constable Mncono with the National Bureau for Missing Persons.”

Sarah Rakgoale, the mother of the missing man’s child, said she last saw him at around 15:00 on the day he disappeared.

“He brought food and toiletries to my house for our child. I feel bad that someone who was close to me and who looked after his child is now missing. It is even worse for his family because they are struggling to cope with his disappearance. He was a good and humble person.

“I tried to call him at 23:30 on August 6 but his cellphone was off. I had received a call from his car tracker company to say they were looking for him.

“The last person to see him is the friend who was with him in Ramaphosa. We phoned the friend who said he last saw Asavela in Ramaphosa and that he had called him at around 20:00 that day to say he was in trouble,” said Rakgoale.

“His white VW Polo was found stripped on the corner of Elsburg and Commissioner roads. I’m grateful for the support that we are receiving from his colleagues at PRASA Security.

“They have helped the Reiger Park police with the search operation and are also helping them with the investigation. We hope he will be found soon.”
