Update: Oli still looking for a loving home

The Boksburg SPCA is still looking for a forever home for Oliver, affectionately known as Oli, the dachshund-cross puppy surrendered to the society in a car oil-soaked bucket.

Oliver made headlines after his owner walked into the society in May 2021 with the bucket and told staff he no longer wanted the dog and said it had been sick for a long time.

“The owner put the bucket down and inside was a brown, skeletal figure of what looked like a dog, soaked in car oil. The little guy lifted his head and looked around and when we pulled him out of the bucket we noticed he could still walk. We knew there may be hope,” Vicky Finnemore, the manager of the SPCA, said at the time.
The little dog is now blossoming at the Boksburg SPCA.

“Oliver recently went for his three-monthly check-up and is doing extremely well. He now weighs 5.9kg.

“We remember the day hit the 3kg mark when we jumped with joy, and here we are now with a happy, healthy Oliver,” said Finnemore.

She expressed her gratitude to those who made the donations towards his treatment.

“Scores of animal lovers from around the world made financial contributions towards Oliver’s medical treatment.

“Due to the overwhelming public support we’ve received, we have been able to give Oliver the best medical care that we wouldn’t have been able to afford otherwise.”

Finnemore highlighted they are reminding the public that Oliver is up for adoption.

“We’re in no rush, but we will rehome him if the right family comes along. We’d like to find him a home where he is individually loved and not alone on weekends,” she highlighted.
