Nehawu members strike in front of Tambo Memorial Hospital
Services at the hospital continued as per normal.
A handful of members from the National Education Health and Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu) are protested outside the Tambo Memorial Hospital yesterday morning (March 7) as part of the national strike led by the union.
Tambo Memorial spokesperson Zoliswa Nzeku said picketing continues outside the hospital entrance.
“However, staff members, patients and ambulances can access the hospital premises and there are no obstructions,” Nzeku added.
Nzeku highlighted all services continue as normal.
“It has been confirmed that some of our staff members who are part of the union are participating in the strike. The majority of employees reported for work and services continue.”
Nehawu has been locked in a wage dispute with the government. The department offered a 4.7% increase while unions are demanding between 10% and 12%.
