Atlasville resident bags role in teen sitcom
Bontle has played a lead character in plays written and directed by Tebogo Langa.
Bontle Langa (17) from Atlasville scored herself a lead role in an SABC 3 teen sitcom called 100 Days to Succeed.
She plays Esihle, a quirky optimist who relies on her friend, Rhandzu, to keep her grounded while she manages an intense crush on her classmate.
The sitcom series is about a teen duo navigating school life, social media and entrepreneurship.
The series can be viewed every Friday at 16:30 and on Saturday at 07:00.
According to Bontle, it surprised her when she realised the character of Esihle is undeniably her younger self; she felt like her long-lost twin.
“I was unfiltered when growing up, which led me to similar situations as these Esihle experiences. She shaves her eyebrows to impress her crush – something I did when I was young.”
Bontle has done modelling and had the privilege of playing a main character in plays written and directed by Tebogo Langa.
This experience, she said, played a vital role when she had to shoot an audition video for 100 Days to Succeed.
“I have been working on my craft for the past two years, making fun YouTube videos. I was also part of the Johannesburg Theatre Shakespeare Schools festivals between 2019 and 2022,” she said.
Attending drama classes with actress, author and director Jade Beeby, introduced the art of performance to Bontle in 2019.
She has also been a guest on YoTV twice and in Hectic on 3 on SABC 3.
“I was always very talkative as a child and loved telling stories everywhere I went. Therefore, I started the YouTube channel to interact with more people,” she said.
