Art Alive: Budding artist finds healing through painting
The exhibit is in Northmead from July 26 to 29.
The pressure and excitement are mounting as over 80 exhibitors gear up to showcase their innovative artworks at the 13th annual Art Alive exhibition, taking place at the Art Alive Art School in Northmead from July 26 to 29.
This year’s exhibition promises to be bigger and better, with more creativity and diverse art pieces.
Last year, the school, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora, raised R25 700.
The John Wesley Community Centre benefitted from the proceeds raised during the four-day event.
Attendees can enjoy hearty winter food while viewing paintings and warm up and socialising around a bonfire.
They will also sell beautiful charity squares artworks at R220 each.
Tickets are R60 per person over the age of four and the exhibition is open from 16:00 to 21:00 daily.

Rynfield resident and Rotarian Daniela David will exhibit Phoenix, her artwork at the Art Alive Art School on 11th Avenue, Northmead, from July 26 to 29, as part of the annual Art Alive exhibition.
She said her painting represents a new beginning following hardships she has encountered.
Daniela joined the art school late last year ‘to get her mind off things’ following the deaths of her brother, sister and fiancé, Joe Grundling, in the short space of a year, due to Covid-19-related illnesses.
“The sad part is, I could not visit them in the hospital due to the lockdown restrictions. I could have been one of them because I also had Covid, but fortunately, I recovered.”
Daniela, engaged to her fiancé for five years, said while her partner was in the ICU, she would drive past the Netcare Linmed Hospital and hoot.

“I believed he would hear me. I wanted to show him that I still care about and was thinking about him.”
During the interview, Daniela paused to gather her strength as she continued to speak about the love of her life.
“Being part of the art classes and Rotary helped me a lot to get over this pain. Instead of taking anti-depressants, I decided to live my life again. The art studio is now like my second home,” she said.
Tickets for the exhibition are R60 per person over the age of four. It is open daily from 16:00 to 21:00.
