Eisteddfod competition for learners with special needs

LSEN learners nationwide were allowed to enter.

The Perservaria Eisteddfod, organised by Lavender Drama Studio in Sunward Park, is giving learners with special needs the chance to get on the stage or behind the canvas.

According to creator of the competition, Liani de Jager, their aim is to provide the ideal Eisteddfod to learners as in the past these learners had to face the challenges of competing in mainstream Eisteddfods.

“They were often overwhelmed by disappointment due to the extremely high standard in which students were adjudicated on the talent that they showcased, which would not take the learners’ challenges into account,” explained Liani.

All LSEN students nationwide were invited to enter.

“With great success in 2022, with more than 800 entries from 52 schools nationwide, we aim to be even bigger and better this year.”

The in-person competition will take place at School of Achievement in Germiston from August 14 to 16. Meanwhile, there is also an online competition. Online video submission should be submitted no later than September 1.
