Students obtain bookkeeping diplomas

The organisation has had 152 graduates to date.

Seventeen RM Accounting and Teaching Services students graduated with bookkeeping diplomas on August 5.

One of the students, Primrose Ndhlovu (37), said when she enrolled on the course, it changed her perspective on life changed because the opportunity gave her hope.

“The reason for this is I dropped out of school at an early age but later returned and completed my matric in 2019.

“When I received my matric certificate, I was happy, but didn’t know what to do next, because I could not afford any tertiary institution.

“I worked as a waitress at that time and thought I would have to do that work my whole life,” said Ndhlovu.

She thanked the founder of RM Accounting and Teaching Services, pastoress Rochelle Moodley, who helped her achieve this milestone.

“It would have been impossible without her support and teaching,” explained Ndhlovu.

Another graduate, Rachel Mazibuko, said she did accounting work at her workplace without the diploma but now believed things would change.

“It was difficult for me to study at my age, but I persevered. It wasn’t easy balancing family life, work and going to school. They were times when I thought of giving up,” she expressed.

“I am glad I did not give up.”

Moodley said the bookkeeping course took six months.

“My teaching passion started in 2014. That was when I began the Unified Joshua Generation.

“At the time, I resided in Actonville and witnessed first-hand how young men and women wasted their lives idling on street corners.

“I started teaching young children how to read, write and listen. The programme grew bigger to include older children,” she said.

She said in 2015, her first 10 bookkeeping students graduated.

“Since then, I never looked back. In 2020, I enabled 42 inmates at Boksburg Juvenile Prison to graduate with a bookkeeping diploma and 13 other students from various communities.

“My course allows an individual to apply to be an inventory clerk, creditors or debtors clerk, cash book clerk, data capturer or junior bookkeeper.”

The organisation was previously known as the Unified Joshua Generation Bookkeepers. When she became a fully-fledged chartered accountant, Moodley changed the name to RM Accounting and Teaching Services.
