Local cop bags medals at combat rifle competition

Diedericks explained the competition was tough.

Former Boksburg North SAPS member Sergeant Gerhard Diedericks excelled at the recent South African Championships combat rifle competition in Bloemfontein.

Diedericks, now affiliated with Gauteng Highway Patrol, said there were 210 competitors.

He added members that competed were from SAPS, SANDF and SACRA. There were also competitors from the Netherlands, New Zealand and Lesotho.
Shooters participated every day and were shooting at distances of 100m, 200m, 300m and 400m.

Diedericks shot in the A-Class open sights category and accumulated a total of 122 at the end of the championships.

He won two silver medals for match 13 and 16 ( 300m open sights).

The national B team, which he was part of, won a gold medal.
“I’m happy with the outcome of the championships. There were excellent shooters this year who shot well and the competition was extremely difficult.

“I hope to be able to do a lot better next year. But it’s not about winning, but improving yourself so that you can be able to climb with your stats and that you can reach to be in the top 100,” he pointed out.

Diedericks highlighted he wouldn’t have been able to participate in the championships without the support of sponsors like Safe City Projects Centurion and Savuti Arms and Boksburg CPF.
