Naidoo takes pageant crown

Naidoo won R100 000, R20 000 for business skills development to impact her community and a R3000 beauty voucher from Sabine G Holistics.

As a single mother and GBV survivor, Lee-Ann Naidoo of Boksburg North used to bake to earn a living.

Now, she thrives as the titleholder of the Mrs Grand South Africa 2023 crown.

The crowning was at the Association of the Portuguese Community of Pretoria on October 28.

Naidoo said she is overwhelmed by her achievement, and it was a journey on which she learnt to love people.

“I cared about people I would never see again in chasing the crown. I lost entitlement, and it humbled me.
“My achievement is nothing short of miraculous in my world. I advocate for GBV victims because I am a survivor.

“This win is for all the women who experienced a similar fate. I carry so many women in my heart as the crown embodies my plight of tragedy to triumph.

“I walked the stage with these women in my heart. This achievement converted an empowered woman into an impactful one,” said Naidoo.

She won R100 000, R20 000 for business skills development to impact her community and a R3 000 beauty voucher from Sabine G Holistics.

The newly crowned Mrs Grand SA said her main goal is to contribute to skills development and sustainable living courses as a baker to empower GBV victims.

“I want to, as a woman, take up space and be heard because I aim to mobilise empowered women to become impactful through action, not just lovely speeches at beautiful high teas. My crown is a crown of purpose that advocates for the aged. I advocate for food security and teach the skill of cooking and baking because I baked for my survival as a single mom years back after my GBV incident to leave my abuser.

“Today, I am testimony that life can change when you are willing to go beyond your comfort zone.”

Another goal for Naidoo is to show women they can rise regardless of their circumstances.
