No potholes permitted here

The businessman says he hopes others will be encouraged to take action.

Residents and businesses are increasingly taking service delivery into their own hands to prevent Boksburg from falling apart.

One such business owner is Charlie Bentel, of Bentel Property Consultants, in Edgar Road, Jansen Park.

Since relocating his offices to the area earlier this year, Bentel has ensured the upgrade of the area by deploying teams of workers to attend to overgrown grass, litter and, most recently, potholes.

In June, Bentel wrote a letter to the editor, which was published. This was a plea to the City of Ekurhuleni to do something about the potholes in Edgar and Sydney roads.

Now, after numerous unsuccessful attempts to get the metro to repair the roads, Bentel has taken matters into his own hands.

Apart from road repairs, the business has a team of dedicated individuals who they provide with brush cutters and petrol.

“We pay them weekly to maintain sidewalks and surrounding areas. “This simple but impactful initiative not only provides employment but also contributes to the overall aesthetics of our community,” Bentel said.

“We believe our actions highlight the lack of support from council. “It is disheartening to witness the disregard for the concerns of our residents.

“We hope other people will be encouraged to take action to help make our country the wonderful place it has the potential to be.

“Perhaps by shining a light on the challenges faced by our community we can foster a sense of unity and drive positive change.”
