The Boksburg Advertiser asked a few residents at Ridgeview Retirement Village what their favourite Christmas memory is.
Godfrey Main: One December, when we were still living in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), I went on the Pendennis Castle with my parents. The crew dressed up for Christmas and it was just amazing. I enjoyed it.Don Zillen: One of my favourite memories is that I got a fret machine for Christmas when I was nine. I used it my entire life and eventually gave it away in 2009 and it was still in a working condition.Judith Vermicelli: When I was in my early 30s I went to my sister and her husband, who lived near Hillcrest for Christmas. The entire family was there. We would all help to set the table and open Christmas presents. It was amazing.Rose Zillen: In 1963 I went with friends to Durban for the Christmas season and my boyfriend surprised me and joined us. I was annoyed because he came driving in a ‘skadonk’. He then asked me to marry him and I eventually said yes.
